Interview with Illustrator Niclas Boman (Tillfabriken)

1. which materials do u prefer when it comes to art?
When I first started drawing/painting again after a couple of years of not doing it, I preferred canvases, a lot of paint and brushes. But I grew tired of that and for the past year and a half I've only used fine liners on pretty much any paper I can find. I developed this style of shading that's almost impossible (at least for me it is) to do when using a brush, so I kind of have to use fine liners and other pencils, hah.

2. where do u get ideas and inspiration from?
I think that inspiration isn't something that you just grab or decide to go look for. I rather believe that it's something you just discover by random, maybe sometimes without really knowing it. I like David Lynch's theory about ideas and inspiration as being a bit like fish: you just have to catch it, because it's out there. But when ideas pop up it's usually when I'm reading a book, watching a movie or just taking a walk. It's kind of hard to describe, because an idea could just pop up anytime and anywhere.

3. what animal would u like to be and why?
maybe some kind of a mutated blue whale that's ten times it's normal size, so that I could swim to the southern ocean whale sanctuary and scare away the japanese whaling fleets, haha.
